Sustainable Arts Funding

Have you got a solution for arts funding in your community? If so, I’d like to hear from you. I’m looking for solutions that help foster the arts in communities, (beyond government grants and traditional corporate funding)  that I hope will inspire my government, and yours, to take action, and contribute in innovative ways to the Creative Economy.

One idea I have is for our provincial government to take every sales tax dollar generated by the arts (eg, ballet, opera, symphony, galleries) and reinvest it back into the arts, much like taxes collected on gas sales goes to building and maintaining roads in British Columbia.

I look forward to receiving your ideas and comments. Thanks in advance!

I think another potential avenue for sustainable funding will take shape when arts organizations start to establish themselves as a ‘social business’ – i.e., as equity (not-for-profit) partnership between the (arts) organization/members and other investment (funding) partners.
