Transformational Leadership
for the Age of Innovation
Sept 16-18, 2008, Vancouver BC, Canada
Master Classes presented by global pioneers in arts-based learning for business:
Ralph Kerle CEO of the Creative Leadership Forum, Asia Pacific
and Linda Naiman founder of Creativity at Work

“The best in art and life comes from a centre; something urgent and powerful; an ideal or emotion that insists on being. From that insistence a shape emerges and creates a structure out of passion. If you begin with a structure, you have to make up the passion, and that is very hard to do.”
—Roger Rosenblatt, essayist
Arts-in-Business Practices Generate Millions
Our leadership forum is certainly developing into an idea that insists on being, and I’m excited to share with you our latest news. Firstly, when Lisa Canning joined our team, to help promote the Forum, I knew she was involved in the world of art and business, but I didn’t know the details.
During a casual conversation Lisa told me “As a classically trained musician, with no formal business training, I decided to build a retail business which began in my dorm room during my senior year at Northwestern University back in the 80’s. Over the course of the next twenty years, my business grew into a 12 million dollar four store chain and mail order business.”
Wow! She went on to say, “One of the realizations I recently had, after reading Orchestrating Collaboration at Work, is that my customer service and sales staff, without official training, but all artists themselves, were utilizing arts based learning to excel.” Lisa will be sharing her success story about utilizing arts based learning to excel at our Leadership Forum.
Governance
We’ve invited David Fushtey, principal of the Governance Group to speak about a topic very few innovators think about: The connection between innovation, leadership and governance.
As principal of The Governance Counsel David Fushtey, developed the principles and practices of a Principled Governance™ and Governance Platform™ approach to strategic oversight and decision-making, and has advised senior executives from Canada, China and Italy. He specializes in governance literacy within hybrid organizations that bring together public and private interests; his achievements include international commercial transactions from Chicago to Kuala Lumpur to Washington, D.C., in telecommunications, land development and technology development enterprises.
David Fushtey LLB, defines good governance as the effective exercise of informed authority – more specifically at the level of boards of directors or governing councils who provide strategic direction and oversight. He will share some of his thinking and experiences around legal frameworks for creative processes, governance realms. At a more pragmatic level, he will talk about how to include creativity in the core values and practices of an organization. From a technical overview of key governance words, to practices of balanced scorecards, best interests and deliberative decision-making, he will provide a glimpse into the world of boards of directors, councilors and commissioners, of governance literacy and creative compasses. He will be speaking Sept 16 and 17. Please bring questions.
Getting Smart about Intellectual Property
The third development in our Forum is centered around a topic innovators think about a lot — Intellectual Property. Catherine Mutala a senior partner with Oyen Wiggs Green & Mutala will present Getting Smart about Intellectual Property: How do you create value from IP? What are the pitfalls to avoid? How do you protect it?
